Pain!!!!

It has been a rough few days for Kayla since surgery due to pain control issues.

Her epidural failed on thursday at 3pm and only got replaced by 9pm! She was climbing the walls.

In addition she has been on oppiates for so long now that she has built up quite a tolerance, so her dosage is at the maximum for her weight but only gives minimal releif!!!

She also had a bit of a blip on friday with a touch of tachicardia and poor O2 saturation (signs of a pulmonary embolis!!!!!) The intesive care team were on the ball and K was in the emergency CT scanner within 15 mins! No clots but a significant amount of fluid on her right lung. That was sorted over the weekend but the pain issue was not being resolved.

Kayla was either doped out of the real world into Laa laa land or was in a whole world of pain! Yesterday they tried plan B with an interfeatal block. Like an epidural but more invasive similar risks but if successful a whole lot more effective. I was a little woried as these are used to treat the pain of patients who are "Not" expected to get better!!!!! The pain management consultant said this was not Kayla's case this procedure was being undertaken in order to give Kayla a break and to enable her to get some rest and concentrate on getting better.

I phoned in this morning and she had had a quiet night.

Anyway must crack on .............................................it's my day off from hospital and I have a farmyard of a house to clean and a ten year old to entertain!!!!!!!!!

Hope the housework is getting done - not like mine that resembles a battlefield at the moment! Just to busy at work! Hope Zak is well! Good news that Kayla had a quiet night - hope that she will get a break from the pain. Give her a hug from us. Love as always Nicola, Steve and the Boys.
